Bachelor of Arts Degree in Design

Become a design innovator

Our Bachelor of Arts Degree in Design is available for students who have already earned their Associate of Arts degree from FIDM in one of five majors:

  • Fashion Design
  • Graphic Design
  • Interior Design
  • Textile Design
  • Visual Communications

What Our Students Learn

In our program students will learn to:

  • Demonstrate communication skills to articulate design solutions.
  • Integrate critical thinking and research skills to evaluate and research the global, socio-economic, and historical influences and/or trends in design.
  • Develop interpersonal relationships by using focused interview techniques.
  • Combine current and past trends as sources of design inspiration.
  • Use industry standard technology to develop design ideas.
  • Address design challenges using cultural, geographic, political, environmental, regulatory, and ethical viewpoints.

The Bachelor of Arts in Design Program incorporates advanced practices of design with historical, ethical, and social perspectives. Building upon skills from their A.A. degree, students develop a personal design thesis. Through capstone studio courses, students explore design strategies, trends, visual image, and identity, as they articulate design concepts for real-world application and target customers.

A Closer Look

The Bachelor of Arts in Design Program prepares students to think creatively, critically, and divergently about the design process. Students learn to appreciate the universality of design, contextualize design problems, and blend historical and global perspectives with evolving trends as the foundation for inspired design solutions. Students become design innovators by learning to balance conventional design approaches with new, emergent thinking.
