I had started a kid’s line with four friends before FIDM and we made lots of mistakes and lost a lot of money. I seriously learned more in my first quarter at FIDM than in the year and a half that we had our business.

I read like a madman and want to learn from as many people as I can. I am an extremely driven and outgoing person. I know exactly what I want, and will do what it takes to get it done.

B.A. Psychology, Minor in General Business

Apparel Industry Management Professional Designation Student
Every single day at FIDM makes me realize why I love it - all of my friends at FIDM are transfer students and we talk all the time about how lucky we are and we are like a little family! The highlight of my life was going on the FIDM Study Tour to Paris, and seeing the city from a fashion perspective was just incredible.

I love to draw, scrapbook, make cards, paint, and do anything artsy or crafty. I live outside of the city and am just 15 minutes from the beach so I have the best of both worlds!

Apparel Industry Management Professional Designation Student
FIDM has put me in a place where I can meet the people who I need to meet and L.A. is the place to be for fashion. Coming from a school that didn’t really specialize in anything, FIDM makes me feel confident about graduating and it’s respected in so many places so I’m really happy to have it on my resume! I was asked to participate in the FIDM Museum & Galleries’ Wizard of Oz gala and Fine Arts Exhibition. It was amazing to meet people from every industry and getting my hair and makeup done was a surreal experience! As an RA in housing, I meet students and parents from all backgrounds. I’ve learned to be a leader, a mentor, and an on-site mother.

I want to be known in the industry and in my life as someone who works for what she has and also someone who gives back to the community. Being raised by a single mother, I was inspired to see her working hard to give me the best education possible and still enrich my life with everything from ballet to piano lessons.

    A.A. in Liberal Arts

    Visual Communications Professional Designation Graduate
The day that I graduated from FIDM was the greatest moment in my life so far. That validation of completing my college career and knowing that I graduated from a college that truly brought out the best in me was a huge moment of ecstasy.

I’m the girl who always has a smile on her face and I love to wear heels. An odd quirk I have is that I never like to wear pants because I feel so free and comfortable in shorts and dresses.

    General Studies

    Visual Communications Graduate
FIDM was really different from my community college. It wasn’t so sterile and was much more current and contemporary. Even though the classes are small compared to other colleges, FIDM has bigger ideas, and there are so many avenues of where you can go career-wise.

I am pretty eclectic and don’t fit the way I look. I’m a huge dork and love music, art, museums, sewing, and craft places. I don’t ever stick to one thing.
    Jessica Javors
    Indiana University

B.S. in Marketing and International Studies

    Visual Communications Professional Designation Student
Students here are part of a really hip, artistic, and creative crowd, who aren’t afraid to take risks with their clothing and stand out. I look forward to going to my FIDM classes and I actually want to be there longer!

I am definitely a Chicago girl at heart, who loves simple nights with friends and attending Cubs or Blackhawks games when I’m home. My philosophy in life is that I have to work hard in order to play hard.
    Justin Hamilton
    Boston University

    B.A. Psychology

    Digital Media Professional Designation Student
I feel like I've been at summer camp because of how much fun I’ve had in school. At first it was hard deciding between majors, but now I can see that Digital Media is the perfect fit for me. It’s the ultimate geek major.

Playing live every month with my band in Boston was a highlight of my life and I’m itching to get out there again here in L.A. I am a music addict and the scene here is amazing and intense. I love dreamy/electronic/pop stuff from the U.S. and Europe, along with 80s and dance music.

I was always artistic so when I heard all about FIDM and met with an Advisor I fell in love. The location was a key factor and I love all the computer classes I get to take with my major.

People always tell me they love my laugh and I live to laugh and love to live. I am a perfectionist, all-around people person, neat freak, and I have a twin brother.
    Erin Krenski
Moore College of Art & Design

    B.F.A. Fine Art

    Visual Communications Professional Designation Graduate
FIDM gave me a reason to dream. After four years at Moore College I thought my portfolio was great, but after one year at FIDM, my portfolio is phenomenal!

I am an extremely fast walker and talker and sometimes feel a bit A.D.D., yet I can sit playing with Photoshop for 12 hours straight. I am completely obsessed with design in every capacity whether it be color, composition, or interpretation.

I was spending an enormous amount of money on a program that wasn’t teaching me that much. FIDM was a great pick because it focused entirely on what I wanted to do and quickly and in no other city in the world can you take a drive, go skiing in the morning, and then go surf later that day.

When the movie Dogtown came out a bunch of friends and I got paid to skate an empty pool for a photo shoot. They dressed us up in all the seventies gear, but I got stuck in the short shorts. It was the best worst situation ever!

For the longest time I was searching for a real connection to my studies. My heart always gravitated towards fashion and at FIDM I have the opportunity to explore, learn, and live my passions. I really have a sense of what my future looks like and I am very happy.

I'm inspired by FIDM, my teachers, family, friends, advisors, and FIDM President Toni Hohberg. People who come from nothing and are making it big by staying driven and true to themselves especially inspire me. I really hope to one day inspire someone else.
    Caroline Childs
    Arizona State University

    Business Administration

    Merchandise Product Development Student
Since I didn't know anyone I lived in student housing and I really liked the girls I was paired up to live with. The classes and teachers at FIDM really connect with me so I am completely enjoying it. I tried studying business at ASU, but it was nothing I wanted at all.

I am not much of a homebody. My friends and I always go to the beach or play tennis or just go out and do things. I'm originally from Chicago and L.A. has more of a chilled out vibe that I like.
    Pamhidzai Mbanga
    Marvel College

    Fashion Design Diploma

    Fashion Design Student
In one day, FIDM transferred all the appropriate credits from my old school and it was no hassle at all! There was a time when I wasn't feeling creative and had lost focus when an instructor from FIDM gave me a few simple words that inspired one of my best garments.

I'm passionate about things that matter to me and always curious and willing learn new things. Coming to the realization that I can achieve anything I want to has been the greatest moment in my life.
    Andrea Blieden
    University of California, Berkeley

    B.A. Economics

    Apparel Industry Management Professional Designation
FIDM has connections in the industry, not only with jobs and internships, but the teaching staff is really experienced and knowledgeable. The administration and counseling staff is super attentive and make the process easy, from enrollment through graduation.

I love looking at a garment and thinking about how amazing and different it is and then how that is going to translate into sales and who the right customer is.
    Jenny McClain
    Des Moines Area Community College

    A.A. in Fashion Design/Merchandising

    Merchandise Product Development Student
FIDM has an open door policy where you feel like family and I even call my Advisor my “L.A. Mom.” The transition was easy (even from Iowa), I made friends from day one, and now I'm Student Council President!

I just returned from Paris with FIDM and it was one of the highlights of my life!
