Grad Alejandra Palma-Galindo Launches Genderless Jewelry Brand
Visual Communications grad Alejandra Palma-Galindo's genderless jewelry brand, Androhmeda, has been catching the attention of celebrities and musical artists including Saweetie, Chiquis Rivera, and Natti Natasha, among many others. Her line was also recently featured in Vogue Ukraine. Born in Houston, Texas, and raised in Latin American countries including Honduras and Costa Rica, Alejandra attended Colegio Angloamericano in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, México. She makes her pieces by hand in her Downtown Los Angeles atelier and says her time in Latin America has influenced her design style and still inspires her creative projects. We caught up with her to learn more about her creative and entrepreneurial journey.
Tell us about your jewelry brand: Androhmeda is a genderless brand that focuses on empowering the wearer with an armor of one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces. I focus on creating sustainable wearable art that is a part of the wearer’s daily ritual. All of the items are handmade by me, Alejandra Palma-Galindo, in my DTLA atelier.
How did FIDM help prepare you for your career? FIDM helped me by allowing me to learn from amazing teachers who I always see as my mentors, who pushed me and my own creativity to reach new levels which ultimately led me to where I am at. I learned how to use my creative nature in a more professional way, learning that being creatively talented requires structure too! One of my greatest teachers and mentors was Mando Robles, who believed in me the moment I entered my first class with him.
How did you come up with the name and what is your aesthetic? I came up with my brand name because I am fascinated by Greek mythology; I fell in love with the story of Andromeda! It also means "to be mindful of a man" (woman in my case) which describes the morals behind my brand. I also loved the fact that it sounds the same in English and Spanish (both languages I am fluent in). I added the H in between to make it my own. My design aesthetic is a mix of oversized and dainty items, hard and soft, gold and silver. I always loved extreme juxtaposition in everything I create and Androhmeda truly embodies that!
Which celebs are loving your brand? Saweetie, Chiquis Rivera, Natti Natasha, Sevyn Streeter, Prince Royce, Jonathan Davis, Brianne Howey, Ally Brooke, Bianca Jasmine Lawson, Ana de la Reguera, Serayah, Emily Tosta, and Bresha Webb, amongst others.
Anything else you’d like to share? I hope this story inspires someone; it has taken me a lot of years of inner work to become the person I am today. I am proud to see what I have created from the ground up independently but also with the support of many people who love me and appreciate my talent like my family, my boyfriend, all the creative teams and my supporters. I’ve had a lot of ups and downs throughout my personal and professional career but those moments have shaped who I am. I am appreciative of every moment that has become a lesson and excited to keep growing and evolving as an entrepreneur, creative, and human.
