Since its founding in 1969, FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising) has been a hub of learning, growth, and opportunity for countless students, faculty, and staff. Over the past five decades, its impact has been felt across the fashion and creative industries.
Arizona State University (ASU) is carrying forward FIDM’s mission of preparing students for successful careers in the industry. With a strong commitment to student success and the academic excellence of ASU’s Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, ASU ensures that FIDM lives on. ASU FIDM offers fashion degrees at the bachelor’s and associate levels in Los Angeles and Phoenix, building on FIDM’s enduring legacy—a legacy shaped by generations of talented alumni who continue to make their mark on the industry.

As of March 31, 2025, the independent institution known as FIDM will officially sunset.
FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising) was a private college in Los Angeles, California, accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC).

ASU FIDM offers a Bachelor of Arts in fashion, three associate degrees, and a minor, all designed to prepare students for a variety of careers in the fast-evolving fashion industry. With hands-on courses emphasizing design, technical skills, business management, and sustainability, students can specialize in areas such as fashion design, apparel technical design, fashion business management, or fashion studies—culminating in a capstone project that sets them up for success in the professional world.
We invite the public to join us throughout the year for a range of events, including exhibitions, panel discussions, guest speaker series and student showcases. These gatherings bring together students, alumni, industry leaders, and the community to celebrate creativity, spark conversation, and foster new connections in the world of fashion.
