Grad Bryan Hearns Who Dresses Cardi B, Kylie Jenner, and Ariana Grande is Featured in ELLE

Celebrity designer and FIDM Fashion Design Graduate, Bryan Hearns, is featured in a Q&A with ELLE.com for his sparkling work with stars ranging from Cardi B to Mariah Carey.

Since graduating from FIDM, the 28 year-old designer has garnered serious attention from celebrities and their stylists for his statement-making designs. ELLE.com hosted a Q&A with Hearns, who has created custom showpieces for Ariana Grande's world tours and music videos, Cardi B’s risqué cowboy looks, and dressed Kylie Jenner for the American Music Awards. He's also crafted Halloween costumes for Khloe Kardashian and Demi Lovato and recently dressed super influencer, James Charles, for Coachella.

He told the online magazine that he got his official start at FIDM, but was in love with fashion since high school. "I don't know how I found out about fashion shows, but I started watching the shows that were on the Dior website when John Galliano was designing, and that's when I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in fashion," he said. "I was like, 'What is this? This is crazy.' I was obsessed ever since."

To get experience, Hearns interned for fellow FIDM alum Lauren Conrad's fashion show, where he helped dress models and made sure they were runway ready. Once he went out on his own, he said he built his aesthetic in part from Home Depot hardware. "At the beginning of my career, I didn't live in downtown in L.A., I lived more on the outskirts, so I wasn't able to come out to the city to get supplies," he explained. "I went to Home Depot a lot, and I got a lot of screws and hardware, and I kind of used a lot of that. Then it just gradually changed to crystals and zippers and chains."

He said his clients are bold, sexy feminists and cites the 2000s as his favorite fashion era. And even though he's dressing some of the world's most famous women, Hearns is still dying to get one of his custom designs on Rihanna. "She's definitely number one, for sure. She embodies exactly what the Bryan Hearns woman is," he said.
