Cindy Maureen plans to be an international fashion designer

After receiving an AA degree from Irvine Valley College, Jakarta, Indonesia native Cindy Maureen transferred to FIDM to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a fashion designer. The part-time model and owner of the eyelash company, House of CN, was 1st runner up Miss Asia USA 2016 and World Beauty Queen Indonesia 2015 prior to studying at FIDM.

How did your Admissions Advisor help you? My advisor helped me throughout the process of transferring to FIDM. Since I am an international student, he had to renew my F1 visa, which requires a lot of time.

Tell us a bit about yourself. Other than fine arts, I like to travel, and I enjoy photography and doing makeup. When I was 12 years old, my parents moved me to Singapore to study for six years, and then I moved to Australia for a year. I took professional makeup classes in Indonesia and also went to a modeling school where they taught me how to walk on the runway and how to pose for the camera. I was a model in several TV commercials in Indonesia. Moving to America was a big step for me. I did some photoshoots for a few brands, modeled in a few fashion shows in LA, was featured in a music video, and represented Indonesia at the La Jolla Christmas Parade in 2015, and in the Indonesia Festival in Los Angeles, Washington D.C and San Diego.

What are your proudest accomplishments so far? Since I was six, I've wanted to be a fashion designer. Art was my strongest subject throughout school. I’ve achieved numerous awards from winning drawing competitions and have over 200 trophies at my house in Indonesia. One of the most unforgettable moments was winning third place in a drawing competition hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organizations of the United Nations in 2004, when I was nine years old.

What made FIDM right for you? Everyone wants to go to FIDM. After getting my AA degree from the local community college, I decided to transfer to FIDM to obtain my bachelor's degree. The reason for choosing this school, other than hearing a lot of good comments from people who graduated from FIDM, is because it has such a beautiful learning environment and I feel like their curriculum matches my personality.

What are your post-FIDM goals? After graduating from FIDM, my goal is to work for the fashion industry in the U.S. and then set up my own business, creating my own clothing line in the U.S. and Indonesia.

What do you expect to learn at FIDM? I want to learn how to be a successful fashion designer and meet people from the industry and learn from them.
