Business Management Grad Working as a Senior Consultant in Germany

Since earning degrees in Design and Business Management from FIDM LA, Brazilian-born graduate, Vanessa Meneguelli, is working as a senior consultant for sharemundo in Germany.

Vanessa, who graduated from FIDM in 2010, went on to MIP (Politecnico di Milano), Italy's largest engineering university, to take part in their MBA program. "I loved everything about my university years," she said. "My fondest FIDM memories are my friends, professors, and mentors who brought so much knowledge into my experience. I learned that no matter the size of a task, with the right tools and knowledgeable support, we can always accomplish [our goals]. Dr. Sims once mentioned a very cool phrase, which I'll try to quote if I may: 'Not every reader is a leader. But every leader is a reader.' I agree with everything he says—I’m biased."

Currently, Vanessa works as senior consultant/business analyst for the Munich-headquartered business management consultancy, sharemundo, where her main client is the American corporation, Westinghouse Electric. "We perform business analysis and improvements with the aid of IT tools," she explained. "Our work is mainly based on standardization of processes overall, and customization where necessary." Vanessa works with the client in their German headquarters in Mannheim, as well as with their American counterpart in Pennsylvania. "I do enjoy the exciting mix of American and German cultures while performing business," she added.

Vanessa is based in Frankfurt, which she describes as an international city that's still small and charming. "There are no lines anywhere, and the city is safe, clean, and well taken care of," she said. "But before I convince anyone to move over, the weather here does not even remotely compare to Los Angeles."

She remembers FIDM as a special experience because the instructors were highly qualified and the program taught aspects of every industry. "Foundation is very important to me, and when FIDM covered a bit of it all at some point, we have no big surprises now," she said. "I'm not a fan of surprises, whether good or bad, because it forces me to be reactive either way. FIDM had the ability to prepare us in generalized and specific manners, focusing on logic and creativity alike, the polarized combos which can and should coexist harmoniously."
