Ask Fashion Girl

Dear Fashion Girl,

Dear Fashion Girl,

I have these really cute slim khakis, but I don't know what kind of shoes to wear with them. My feet are a little on the large side and I'm afraid that I'll look weird if I wear chunky shoes. Also, the pants are straight-leg so big shoes overpower them. Do you have any suggestions?

Water-skier

Dear Water-skier,

You are absolutely correct in avoiding "big" shoes if you don't want to overpower your slim khakis. The first shoe that I would recommend would be an ankle-high boot that laces up the front and has a slight heel. Your pant leg will fall over the boot, giving the illusion of a continuation of the pant and not a separate heavy accessory. The laces in the front will add to this illusion. The slight heel will give your foot a more shapely and smaller appearance.

When you do go shopping for the perfect shoes for your khakis, ask the salesperson to see boots that appear narrow. Often times shoes that appear narrow on the outside will be just as comfortable as shoes that appear wider. You should also consider that both dark-colored shoes and rounded-toe shoes tend to make your feet look smaller.

Good Luck in finding the perfect shoes.
