Students Meet with Top Companies at FIDM Job Fair

Besides learning under celebrity instructors such as Nick Verreos and sharing an alma mater with such industry giants as Monique Lhuillier, FIDM Students who attend the FIDM Job Fair have the opportunity to meet with employers from top companies in the apparel, home, and beauty industries. Whats more, some of these students actually leave the Job Fair with an offer in hand! Several students receive on-the-spot extensions of employment, confirms Ray Garcia, Director of Career Development at FIDM. And many students receive invitations to follow-up interviews, he adds.

Students who dont receive an offer at the Job Fair, held twice a year, can still expect to gain a wealth of knowledge that will be useful after graduation. The morning of the Job Fair the Career Services Center team facilitates an application/interview workshop that includes interviewing and networking tips, business etiquette, and a question and answer session, informs Garcia.

The pre-Job Fair workshops also help to boost students confidence. One student remarked, I learned how to be professional and stand out from the crowd. Another said, I learned that I shouldnt be nervous, and to have a positive attitude for a positive result.

Having face time with every company from Armani Exchange to Z-Galleries is in itself a positive result for the students, but also for the employers themselves. We were able to pool many great candidates from your student body, recalls a representative from Armani Exchange. He, along with over a hundred other employers, participate in the FIDM Job Fair because they know they will be introduced to applicants who are not only qualified, but ready to roll up their sleeves and work hard.

So how can one measure the success of a Job Fair? Garcia and the rest of the team have numerous statistics for that, but its the positive feedback from the employers that is most valuable. They tell me the students were prepared, professional, eager, interested, friendly, and full of great questions! Surely, comments like these are a testament to the energy the FIDM Career Services Center puts into ensuring the success of FIDM Students.
