Career Connections 2008
FIDM Students Connect with FIDM Grads
"If my insight and encouragement can help somebody go after their dreams, it is time well spent."
Raymundo Baltazar, FIDM Graduate, Project Runway star
In one of the most successful turnouts in the event's 16-year history, more than 1,000 current FIDM Students networked with over 140 FIDM Grads at the 2008 Career Connections. The day, which included an alumni breakfast and 15-minute segments of "speed networking" between students and grads, is just one of many exciting career-related events held at FIDM.
Among the esteemed FIDM Alumni in attendance:
- Footwear Designers for Chinese Laundry, Ernesto Estrada and Candice Ulmer
- Special Events and Video Director for Fox Broadcasting, Jeff Yang
- Interior Designer for Wilson & Associates, Alter Burston
- Merchandise Manager for Rock & Republic, Jenna Burgrabe
- Fashion Designer/Owner of Kevan Hall, Kevan Hall
- Project Runway Alumni Nick Verreos, Kelli Martin, and Raymundo Baltazar
The grads themselves were equally happy about meeting with the students, and many used the networking event as an opportunity to hire FIDM Students and other grads.
"I was able to bring in three interns," confirmed Rock & Republic Merchandise Manager Jessica Burgrabe.
"It's a pleasure to share my stories and experience, knowing that I might be able to help at least one student walk away with a little more perspective," she added.
"Career Connections is always a huge success," said Sharon Ryan, Executive Director of Industry Relations for the Career Center. "With the continued support and participation of our amazing FIDM Alumni, I know it will keep getting better and better each year!"
