Tiffany Names New Chief Artistic Director

January 23, 2017

Tiffany named Reed Krakoff as its new Chief Artistic Officer last week. The news is notable for a few firsts: Krakoff who made his name by reimagining the Coach handbags brand is not an experienced jewelry designer and the new position places him in the executive suite, the first time a creative designer has risen to such an important position within the heritage American luxury company. Analysts take the move as a signal about the rising importance of creative design to modern commerce. "Reed understands luxury, and the impeccable purity of design required of jewelry," Tiffany's spokesperson tells the New York Times, regarding Krakoff's background in leather and cashmere rather than jewels.
