How did your advisor help with the process? Dee was very helpful with providing me with every bit of information I needed. She was available when I had any questions through the process. Dee has helped me achieve my goal of getting accepted to FIDM and believed in my talent from the start of the process. I appreciate all that Dee has done for me in trying to help me make my fashion dreams start to become a reality.
Tell us a bit about yourself. I was born and raised in the city of Chicago, but moved to Des Plaines for high school. I'm currently student at Maine East High School. My love for fashion started when I was around 5 years old, but I started sewing during my freshman year of high school. I learned how to knit when I was in third grade, and I began learning how to make jewelry at a child. I am currently vice president of our Fashion Club, and will become president my senior year. I am also in the process of becoming a Nordstrom Fashion Ambassador.
What are your proudest accomplishments so far? I have received a gold medal in the state competition for FCCLA. I was a member of a team of designers that competed in FashioNext at the Chicago History Museum that won the grand prize for a designing competition. I was a producer for my school’s district fashion show. I have received several school awards in history, chemistry, rotary, and student of the month in fashion class. I have made honor roll for the last three years.
What made FIDM right for you? I liked the variety of majors offered at FIDM. I felt that I had a lot of different opportunities to get into the major that fulfilled my dreams and goals within the fashion world. I also like FIDM’s connections with people in the fashion industry to help get real world experience from.
Describe your entrance project. My entrance project was to create your own clothing line and provide insight on what your line would be about and your target market. I had a lot of fun creating this project because I got to express what I would want my future clothing line to be like.
What are your career goals? I am hoping to own my own fashion company one day. I would like to be able to incorporate jewelry design into my business at some point as well. I would also like to develop new skills over time such as graphic design and footwear design to help expand my company in the future.
What do you expect to learn at FIDM? I hope to enhance my designing skills by learning new techniques and pattern making. I also hope to learn how to efficiently run my own fashion company.
