Student Program at Retail's BIG Show

Eleven students from seven FIDM Majors attended the Student Program at Retail’s BIG Show in New York this past month. Six out of the eleven were sponsored to go on the trip by scholarship from the NRF Association.

The fashion and retail leaders of tomorrow spent three nights and four days, networking with industry heavyweights, and attending workshops, panel discussions, and a career fair.

Rebecca Minkoff was the keynote speaker. The students also heard presentations and panel discussions from leaders including Simon Sinek, motivational speaker and marketing consultant; Paul Gainer, Disney Retail executive vice president; Rachel Shechtman, founder and CEO of STORY; Heidi O’Neill, president of direct-to-consumer for Nike; Paige Richardson, vice president and divisional merchandise manager of contemporary, young contemporary, and fast fashion for Belk; and Blake Smith, designer for the Kohl’s-owned Dana Buchman line.

In attendance were over 650 of the best and the brightest students from colleges across the U.S., 80 educators, 24 retail companies, and close to 100 recruiters.

The FIDM Students who attended are currently enrolled in the following FIDM degree programs: B.A. Design, B.S. Business Management, Merchandise Product Development, Apparel Industry Management, Social Media, Merchandising & Marketing, and Visual Communications.
