FIDM Students have the opportunity to travel domestically and abroad to network with top industry professionals, tour company headquarters, and gain real-world experience in the business and art of fashion and the design industries. Students often learn about upcoming internships at brand headquarters. Here are our top 10 study tours of the year:
1. LA's Hottest Brands Tour
Students sit down with industry insiders at the headquarters of LA’s hottest brands. Design, merchandising, marketing, and production executives share a snapshot of the current contemporary, junior, and lifestyle markets.
2. SXSW Study Tour
Austin’s legendary conference and festival brings together innovators from the creative fields. Students see what’s coming next in marketing, design, virtual reality, politics, film, style, fashion, culture, and music.
3. Fashion Disruptors Study Tour
Over three days in and around Los Angeles, students meet executives and human resources managers as they network at major fashion brands that are reinventing retail and apparel.
4. Denim Study Tour
Students go behind the scenes in denim design rooms, production facilities, wash houses, and showrooms in Los Angeles, the capital of the premium denim industry.
5. Surf and Action Sports Study Tour
Quiksilver, Billabong, Patagonia, Hurley, Skechers, and other leading brands open their doors to FIDM Students on this California tour. They connect with founders, directors of design, technical design, production, marketing, and finance.
6. European Study Tour
Paris, Rome, and Florence are the major stops on our European adventure. Tour guides curate a mix of visits to legendary museums and historic monuments like Versailles with free time built-in for observing street style, shopping, and exploring. Appointments at artisanal workshops and couture houses are included.
7. Inspiration & Creative Studies Study Tour
Students experience holiday displays at Bergdorf Goodman, Macy’s, and Barney’s NY, and the magic of Christmas season in NY. Top retailers, including the Samsung 837 flagship store, open their doors on this insider’s tour of the best in contemporary display.
8. Entertainment Set Design & Decoration Study Tour
A European Study Tour, this trip takes students behind-the-scenes to the great theatres and museums of Western culture. Past tours to London have included visits to the National Theatre and Shakespeare’s Globe. Visits to Italy have included La Scala Opera House in Milan and Teatro dell’Opera in Rome.
