FIDM MajorGraphic Design

FIDM Campus and Start Date: Los Angeles, Fall 2017

Admissions Advisor: Cathy Chambers

How did your advisor help with the process? Cathy helped me through each step, big and small. Transferring and leaving behind the new friends I had made, and the lifestyle I had become accustomed to, could have easily been one of the biggest risks I have taken, but Cathy made me feel very comfortable with the entire process. She was extremely supportive and made me feel like FIDM was right for me even in the earliest stages of applying. Without her support, I don’t think that I would feel as confident as I do going on to work towards accomplishing my goals at FIDM.

Tell us a bit about yourself: I love to stay active, and engage in the outdoors any moment I get. I never pass up an opportunity to participate in spontaneous adventures. Anything that gets adrenaline pumping, is right up my alley. Other than staying active, I spend a lot of time pursuing my love for photography.

What are your proudest accomplishments so far? I think one of my proudest accomplishments thus far would have to be taking my athletic career all the way to highest collegiate level. It’s extremely rewarding to see such hard work pay off in any area of one’s life. Although I’ve decided to break away from that chapter in my life, it was definitely an experience that taught me more about myself and one that I would never give up or change.

What made FIDM right for you? I think what made FIDM right for me is that it allows for me to capitalize on my creative nature and really fosters the ability to take my career to the next level. I knew after speaking with my advisor, Cathy, and seeing how positive and uplifting she was, that FIDM was where I was supposed to be.

Describe your entrance project: For my entrance project, there were three main parts that I had to complete. I had to create a catalog cover, a magazine ad, and a store logo for a brand that I came up with. I really tried to keep my designs simple and more minimalistic while still eye-catching and engaging to a large audience. The project really gave me a lot of freedom to create whatever I wanted, and to express myself through the entire design of the brand. I found it super rewarding to allow myself this freedom to create whatever I desired while being proud of it.

What are your career goals? I would really like to take the skills I learn at FIDM and jump into working with a big name clothing brand or visual arts magazine. I also would like to incorporate my major into the entertainment industry down the line.

What do you expect to learn at FIDM? I expect that through FIDM, I will be able to take my education, apply it to the real world, and grow as a professional while making valuable connections. I really think that through FIDM, I will not only have more opportunities, but I will better be able to encompass my creativity while shaping my future.
