Recent Grads Work Saint Laurent Fashion Show in Malibu

FIDM Career Advisor Rosemarie Ribeiro recently worked with KCD Worldwide, the leading global fashion services agency, to place two new FIDM grads on the production team for the Saint Laurent SS 2020 Menswear Show held at Malibu’s Paradise Cove on June 6th: Gina Claridge (pictured above and who has her A.A. Degree in Merchandise Product Development, her IMPD Degree, and her Bachelor of Science in Business Management) and Sigourney Chapman (who has her A.A. in Visual Communications and her Bachelor of Art Degree in Design).

“I knew Gina Claridge would make an outstanding representation for FIDM, and because she is so sharp I felt the runner position would be ideal for her; and I knew she was available,” said Career Advisor Rosemarie Ribeiro.

Gina worked for two weeks prior to the fashion show, getting ready for the production, and worked as a runner at the show, assisting Crystabelle Ternani, the Saint Laurent Production and Events Coordinator.

“As an assistant I did everything from unpack clothing from the atelier and run errands to organize the work space and help with set up at the base site to communicate with people, help with shipping, and even help in one of their campaign photoshoots at El Matador Beach,” said Gina.

“Overall it was an amazing learning experience that helped me see what the capacity is for major brands like Saint Laurent to put on a fashion show and afterparty—to see how many people and how much planning is needed to run such a big project. Even what you should and shouldn’t do when doing project management. Overall it was an amazing experience and I would do it again. The afterparty was cool and I got to see some really great celebrities like Miley and Liam Hemsworth, Keanu Reeves, Hailey Bieber, and G-Eazy.”

Alumna Sigourney Chapman was hired as a flux assistant to work directly with the assistant to the creative director, tracking samples and compiling documents through InDesign.

“I knew Sigourney had the skill set, time, and presentation to represent FIDM exceptionally,” said Career Advisor Rosemarie Ribeiro.
