Gabriela Carolina Galarza

Ever since Gabriela Carolina Galarza was a little girl, she's had a love for fashion. "I knew I wanted to do something different from my family, and start from the ground up," she says. "From the first meeting at FIDM, I knew that my journey would start there." In three years, she received two degrees, in Apparel Industry Management and International Manufacturing & Product Development.

"FIDM gave me the connections to achieve my dream," Gabriela says. "I’m beyond grateful for the time I spent at FIDM, learning the ins and outs of the fashion business. FIDM gave me a great foundation for everything I do today for my business." She says that the college prepared her for the fast-paced industry, and that field trips to manufacturing facilities were valuable. 

After gaining professional experience at apparel companies such as MaxMara and BCBGMaxAzria, Gabriela decided to strike out on her own with a high-end, made-to-order womenswear brand, Gabriela Carolina, that aims to redesign the classic American jacket. Her designs are made in Los Angeles, using the finest fabrics and hardware sourced from artisan manufacturers around the world. 

"Nothing is impossible," she adds. "Turn your passion into determination. It’s important to work hard, but also make sure you have fun. Start building your relationships and enjoy the journey."
