Interior Design Grad Launches Outlive Design

FIDM Graduate Mariam Ejaz has launched Outlive Design, a free, customizable online invitation that combines the convenience of crowdfunding with helping hosts design their home as a gift on a special occasion.

Like an online registry for design services, interior designers listed on the platform help clients get started with the design process and create free invites. "After listening to clients’ needs while working in the industry, I wanted to solve their design problems, such as not knowing where to start from or not finding interior design accessible," said Ejaz, who received a Professional Designation degree in Interior Design from FIDM in 2009.

While she grew up traveling the world, Ejaz has resided in Orange County, California for most of her life, receiving a degree in International Studies from UC Irvine prior to attending FIDM. "I decided to attend FIDM after UCI to get professionally trained as an interior designer because it was a passion of mine since I was a kid," she explained. "FIDM taught me what real design meant. I learned the process from scratch and realized its power of transforming lives and increasing human productivity."

With Outlive Design, Ejaz hopes to help clients avoid unwanted presents and save people from making costly design mistakes when trying to take on interior design themselves. To get started, hosts can contact one of the independent interior designers listed on the platform who will assist with the planning phase and create an invite to send to guests who may contribute towards a baby's room for a baby shower or office for a new promotion party, for example.

Outlive Design is also hosting Design Workshops on June 9, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and June 23, 2018, from 11: 00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Farrow & Ball at SOCO in Costa Mesa, California.
