Ralph Lauren, BCBG, Volcom, Bebe, Guess?, and 7 For All Mankind are just some of the hundreds of companies that hire FIDM Fashion Knitwear Design Program Graduates.
"Fashion Knitwear Design is the only program at FIDM where you can specialize within the two-year structure. Having a specific focus and diverse skills makes you more marketable when it comes to finding a great job."
- Anne Bennion, Fashion Knitwear Design Chairperson
Go to the head of the class. Senior Designers are at the top of a niche industry. Design for a boutique with a small team under you or manage an entire knitwear division for a major company.
Warm things up. From boyfriend cardigans to snuggly pullovers, sweaters are essential to chic style. Focus exclusively on creating sweaters and sweater dresses, a marketable skill that many companies are looking for.
Play with color. Design fabrics and develop new yarn, stitch, and color combinations for knit fashions. Stay abreast of the hottest texture, pattern, and color trends so designers will use your fabrics for their creations.
Complete the look. Design hats, scarves, gloves, socks, leg warmers, and other stylish knits. Accessory Designers are needed at major fashion labels as well as large or specialty boutiques.
