Grad Thai Nguyen Dresses Ali Wong For Always Be My Maybe Premiere

Fashion Design Graduate Thai Nguyen designed the multicolored tassel fringe dress worn by Ali Wong at the premiere of her upcoming movie, Always Be My Maybe, co-starring Randall Park, Michelle Buteau, Daniel Dae Kim, and Keanu Reeves. The romantic comedy is directed by Nahnatchka Khan (pictured above).

On Instagram, the comedic actress wrote, "Thank you @thainguyenatelier for the beautiful dress and all the spicy nem chua from your boyfriend’s Mom’s restaurant. You make me so proud to be Vietnamese." Thai's own caption of the sparkling dress said: "We were so ecstatic to share this special moment with Ali Wong last night. Getting to dress her for the #WorldPremiere of #AlwaysBeMyMaybe movie was a huge honor AND we had so much fun in the process!"

The Orange County-based couture designer is no stranger to dressing celebrities for the red carpet. Some of his famous designs include creating a gown for La La Anthony for the 2017 Met Gala, designing for Kelly Marie Tran for the premiere of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and dressing Jennifer Lopez for American Idol in 2016. He's also worked with Katy Perry, Elizabeth Banks, Samira Wiley, and fellow FIDM Grad Chriselle Lim.

After graduating from FIDM in 2002, Thai joined BCBG Max Azria as an associate designer, and left two years later to start his own line. Along with his partner, Helen Nguyen, Thai produces both custom womenswear and menswear for clients in the U.S. and abroad, in addition to a ready to wear line – T’aime – for women. He currently represents Vietnam as one of 50 international judges on the global talent competition, The World’s Best, currently airing on CBS All Access.
