Grad Is Wardrobe Stylist for Celebs Like Kendrick Lamar

Grad Is Wardrobe Stylist for Celebs like Kendrick Lamar

We recently chatted with in-demand celebrity stylist Devon Nuszer, who has degrees in Visual Communications and Business Management from FIDM, to learn about her exciting career.

How did you get into the world of styling? I took the Wardrobe Styling class and instantly fell in love with it. At first, it was more of a hobby and a passion. Initially I networked with student photographers and was able to build my portfolio. It didn’t resonate with me that this was an actual career choice until I took my chances and replied to an online posting and landed a styling job for Guitar Center’s Holiday campaign. I remember the moment I booked that job, and from then on I told myself I would be a wardrobe stylist.

Who are some of your notable clients? I’ve been blessed to work with a long list of celebrities, musicians, and companies. Most recently I styled the visuals for Kendrick Lamar’s 2017 Coachella and DAMN world tour. I style the photo shoots and commercials for Guitar Center who has now been my client for over 10 years. I work with actresses Anne Heche (The Brave) and Keisha Castle-Hughes (Game of Thrones).

What do you enjoy most about your career and why? Being a wardrobe stylist has introduced me to a life I could have never dreamed of. I love the collaboration efforts, meeting a variety of people, developing contacts, and networking. Unlike most stylists who intern under an established stylist before breaking out on their own, I have been fortunate to have developed all my business relationships. I have been blessed to work on so many different types of projects. I may work with the same client more than once, but the job is always unique which keeps things fresh and new. I love that I have been able to share in all the experiences of being a businesswoman, which has shaped me in ways I would never have imaged.

How did FIDM help prepare you for your busy career? During my time in Visual Communications, I was able to experience a variety of potential careers through the many classes VCOM provides you. Without touching on all these different subjects, I wouldn’t have been able to be as resourceful as I am today. When I first started my company, I was able to design my logo, Photoshop and edit the images for my website, and not only style the clothing, but design the sets for my photo shoots.
