Students Tour Cosmetic Group USA For an Inside Look at Beauty Product Development

Beauty Marketing & Product Development Instructor Ashley Vilgiate recently took her Business Operations class on a field trip to Cosmetic Group USA, a company headquartered in Los Angeles that helps beauty brands—from mass to prestige to luxury—bring their products to life.

The class had the opportunity to met and network with the Founder and Creative Director, Judy Zegarelli, and the VP of Operations, Julio Lara, and learn how they guide companies with the process from concept inception through formula design to custom package selection and assembly.

Judy explained how she founded the company and her experience with developing her first products, and the successes and challenges along the way to building her business. She shared the client product development process as well.

Every product they make is created, formulated, produced and assembled in their Los Angeles, California factory.

They students toured the manufacturing facility for a first hand view of their operations in order to gain an understanding of the flow of production from the point at which raw materials and components enter the building, to product development/innovation, product batching, quality control procedures, product production, assembly, and shipping.

The Business Operations class (COSM 2380) prepares beauty industry students for managerial advancement. Throughout the course, students gain an understanding of inventory management, forecasting, production planning, project management, and quality control, and the relationship of these components to a successful organization.
