Financial Aid FAFSA Steps

Financial Aid FAFSA Steps

Follow these steps to Apply for Financial Aid at FIDM.

Apply for Federal Financial Aid

Visit www.studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa to apply.

Only students who file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) can receive Federal Education grants and loans, so even if you think you don't qualify for grants, it's important that you submit the FAFSA. Please refer to the attached Tip Sheet provided to assist you in filling out the FAFSA.

Secure a Parent (PLUS) Loan

NOTE: Only available to first time dependent college students (generally those who are under 24 and not married).
Visit the government's Direct Loan Program website, www.studentaid.gov/plus-app which allows you to complete an application, check your credit approval status and complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN). You must have a FSA ID for this process. If you need a FSA ID (same one you might have from signing the FAFSA), please visit www.studentaid.gov/fsa-id/sign-in/landing.

Please refer to the Parent (PLUS) Loan page to assist you in filling out the Direct PLUS loan application, credit check and Master Promissory note (MPN).

Receive an estimated award letter

We will prepare an estimated award letter for you prior to your admissions interview so that you may review your estimated eligibility. Once you've completed your FAFSA, contact your Admissions advisor.

Speak with Financial Aid staff

Students accepted to FIDM will receive a telephone call from one of our financial aid staff who will assist by introducing you to the required documents needed to award your financial aid. These documents are readily available to you on the FIDM Portal at myportal.fidm.edu once you have received your award letter.

You will want to complete and submit your documents as soon as possible to ensure your financial aid package is processed in a timely manner. Some federal aid is only available on a first come, first served basis.
