Computer displays, interactive assistants, samples, and room to just wander and try products without the interruption of aggressive salespeople—beauty retailer Sephora knows how to market cosmetics in the Instagram age. National Retail Federation reports that beauty sales are on the rise: 6% increase in sales overall, and 11% growth in makeup alone in the U.S. for a total of $7.3 billion in sales. Why the bump? "Makeup defines the selfie-obsessed, image-driven culture of our times," explains the New York Times.
