Trendwatchers at Bloomberg online report a rise in influence of West Coast style on New York tastemakers, citing athleisure and a new kind of refined California aesthetic encompassing Bohemian blouses, flowy skirts, and tech fabricated apparel. Citing the earlier influence of Juicy Couture, founded by FIDM grad Pamela Skaist Levy and partner Gela Nash-Taylor, as well as the hot retailer Revolve, analysts see growth coming as celebrities like Kim Kardashian translate Los Angeles' casual style for a New York audience. "It's not that we invented California style. It's that we took California style to the world," said Juicy founders.
