Trendwatch: Is Ralph Lauren Hillary Clinton's Designer-in-Chief?

October 10, 2016

Fashion Editor Vanessa Freedman of the New York Times speculates, after last night's debate, that uber- American designer Ralph Lauren is crafting a presidential look for Hillary Clinton that may carry over to the White House, if she wins. The candidate was dressed by Lauren, in pantsuits, at many key moments this campaign season—the Democratic convention acceptance speech and TV debates. An elegant, coherent look is emerging that Freedman says will probably, "continue but the suits would be more tailored than they have been, a bit less like coat-dresses, a little softer." With Lauren now made in America, and Ralph's all-American success story, the story makes sense.
