How did your advisor help with the process? Susan was a great advisor who helped me all along the way in order to get me ready for my acceptance interview. She talked to my parents and I and informed us on all I needed to do to put my best foot forward. She was very encouraging and easy to talk to. Susan is an amazing person and I am so grateful to have had her as my advisor. She gave me great advice and helped me get accepted; I look forward to working with her again.

Tell us a bit about yourself. I've lived in Southern California my entire life and I've loved every minute of it. I am currently a junior at Vista Murrieta High School. I am also the president of my school's FIDM Fashion Club and it has been an amazing experience so far. Starting from a young age, I have always been interested in fashion--my whole life revolves around fashion. I consider myself a very creative person and fashion is where I excel. I love to sew, surge, embroider--anything that involves fashion. I can't explain how ecstatic I am to be going to FIDM.

What are your proudest accomplishments so far? One of my proudest moments so far would be putting on a major fashion show at my school. This year, my fashion teacher, Kay Mueller, decided to have a fashion show. The theme of our show was world travel, we called it World of Fashion. The theme was inspired by the exchange students our class and our global service project. We had students from Spain, Germany, and El Salvador. For our global service project we made dresses and shorts for the little girls and boys in an orphanage called Breath of Heaven in Zambia, Africa. The show was a lot of hard work that took months of preparation. I worked along side my best friend Julia Vela, who also recently got accepted, to produce the show. Julia and I worked on the script, music, digital special effects, etc. But we could not have done this without the help of the other fashion club officers, sewing mentor Kathie Flacks, and our teacher Kay Mueller. The show was amazing and we were all very proud.

What made FIDM right for you? It's crazy to believe, but I've wanted to go to FIDM since the sixth grade. I remember driving home with my mom and she asked me what I wanted to be when I got older. I told her I wasn't sure, but I knew I wanted to do something involving fashion. She then proceeded to tell me about FIDM and ever since then I knew FIDM was the school for me. FIDM has been a goal of mine for years now and I can't believe that my dreams are finally coming true.

Describe your entrance project. For my entrance project, I was asked to create a brand, which I named Culture Couture. Culture Couture was inspired by my very own Peruvian culture. I featured clothing from my very own collection that I made for my school fashion show. My collection consisted of six different pieces; they each played off of the colors maroon and black with a fun play on tribal pattern. My project was very personal and close to my heart. I put blood, sweat, and tears into my collection and my entrance project. I also wanted to emphasize the fact that my brand was made with the intention of making anyone who wore it feel empowered and beautiful no matter what shape or size. I am very proud of how my project turned out.

What are your career goals? My ultimate career goal would be to own and produce my own brand of clothing. This has been a lifelong dream of mine and I am more than willing to work for it. I know that this is going to be a lot of hard work and take many years, but I am prepared for it. I feel that if you have a strong passion for something you love there is no doubt that you can accomplish your goals.

What do you expect to learn at FIDM? While at FIDM I expect to learn all the necessities to be successful in the fashion industry. I expect to learn the ins and outs of the industry and many different tips to make a name for myself. I hope to gain lots of knowledge from the teachers and FIDM overall. I'm exited to learn the business aspect of the industry, along with fashion. I am truly so excited to be joining the FIDM family.
