Recent Design Graduate Diana Shaginyan was born and raised in Moscow, Russia, where she was a professional singer until the age of 19. After coming home from studying at a music college, Diana was watching TV when she saw a past episode of Project Runway. "It felt like a dream for me to attend FIDM, which was shown on the program," she says. "I had decided to pursue this dream and even placed a picture of FIDM on my dream board."
After receiving her A.A. degree in Fashion Design, Diana heard that FIDM was creating new bachelor's degree program. "I thought that it was a sign," she explains. "One of the main reasons I applied to the new Design B.A. program was to find my own style and incorporate my interests into my business. FIDM guided me to accomplish this goal."
Diana is now living and working in Los Angeles as a Fashion Designer. She says she gets inspired by local architecture. Walt Disney Concert Hall, located just blocks from FIDM, was the inspiration for her first collection. "I used the combination of the building color and the sky color," she says. "My designs are a representation of today's modern era philosophy combining both the masculine and feminine essence."
