Merchandise Product Development
I tell students, ‘Don’t try to memorize the information—better to understand it and apply it.”
Tricia Edwards has worked in the industry as a Fashion Designer and Textile Designer for Geoffrey Beene and PacSun. She also developed and later sold a website devoted to knitting.
Can you tell us more about your background?
I’m from Indiana. I attended Purdue University and then went to New York to FIT, where I lived and worked in the industry for 10 years. I moved to L.A. in 2001, where I got married and had my son.
Describe a favorite class project.
In my “Look for Less” project, students apply all of their knowledge from the quarter by adapting original designs and creating less expensive versions. The challenge is to translate the overall aesthetic at a lower price. Great experience for the real world!
What do you most enjoy about teaching at FIDM?
I love witnessing the creative process and seeing students apply the knowledge they learned in classes. I try to be as interactive as possible in my instruction.
Tricia Edwards is an Outstanding Faculty Award Winner, an award given by the student body to outstanding faculty members.
