FIDM Student: Kimberly Smith

Students give an inside look at their college experience

Tell us a bit about yourself. I am really excited to live in LA and I can't wait to explore the city and meet new people. Some of my hobbies include tennis, yoga, biking, going to the beach, hiking, snowboarding, and traveling.

What are your proudest accomplishments so far? Graduating from college and working as a skin care rep for the past five years and now being accepted into FIDM.

What made FIDM right for you? FIDM was the perfect choice for me because I am very interested in learning about the design and product development side of the beauty industry. The networking and internship opportunities are also another big reason why I wanted to come to school here.

Describe your entrance project. The company I created for my entrance project was called Global Glam Cosmetics. The concept behind the line was to create various collections and looks for different parts of the world. The location I decided to showcase was Hawaii, so I designed four essential products that I felt would be best suited for this beautiful place. I then wore the makeup look at my final interview while I presented my portfolio. I also created a display as well (pictured).

What are your career goals? Upon graduating, my goal is to already have my dream job lined up whether my internship becomes full time or I go to work for another company. A couple positions that I aspire to have would be a buyer, brand manager, creative director, beauty editor, or possibly being the owner of my own beauty line someday.

What do you expect to learn at FIDM? I want to learn about all aspects of the beauty business so I can choose the right career path. I am also really excited to network with industry professionals and listen to the guest speakers who visit the school.
