While earning his first FIDM Degree (in Apparel Management), Jeremy interned at Silver Star. This led to a full time position as Director of Production and Sourcing, which he continued while earning a Bachelor’s degree from FIDM. In late 2010, Silver Star was acquired by Authentic Brands Group (ABG), a brand development and licensing company whose brands include Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Judith Leiber, Prince, Spyder, and Sportcraft. During the acquisition, Jeremy was asked to join the ABG marketing team in New York.
What are your job responsibilities? As Marketing Director at ABG, I collaborate with the sales and financial departments to set the yearly marketing budgets. With the sales, brand, and creative teams, we identify innovative marketing and licensing opportunities and execute on those to grow brand awareness and increase revenue. Some of the marketing initiatives include seasonal photo shoots, identifying ambassadors and sponsorship opportunities, implementing social/digital strategies, and executing retail/brand experiences.
How did FIDM help prepare you for your career? The most important thing FIDM taught me was to always stay determined and set a goal— and once you’ve accomplished that goal, set a higher goal. As a student, one of my teachers was able to get me a pass to attend MAGIC. At the show, I made it a goal to come back with an internship. I presented my resume, portfolio, and business card to several prospective companies, ultimately meeting the owners of Silver Star at the show and securing an interview for the following week.
