Describe a favorite class project.
A favorite class is Collection Development, which I have taught several times. The final project is where a student’s level of creativity flourishes. There are no restrictions on the project and students express their inner creativity. This artistic freedom results in beautiful designs.
What do you enjoy most about teaching at FIDM?
I enjoy working with students and like to have fun in the classroom. Learning and working have to include laughter that releases endorphins that make you feel good. If someone arrives to class unhappy, my sense of humor gets them to smile. My motto is: “When they get it, then I know my job is done.”
deBorah Houston is an Outstanding Faculty Award winner, an award given by the student body to outstanding faculty members.
