What do you enjoy most about teaching at FIDM?
I really love our students. They are bright, creative, and unpredictable. I appreciate that the class sizes are small enough that I can really get to know each of my students. I love when I hear from a student long after they have graduated.
Describe a favorite class project.
I really love the final project in my “Promotion in the Merchandising Environment” class. It is a culmination of all the marketing knowledge students have learned over their FIDM career. I enjoy watching them connect the dots.
What is your philosophy of teaching?
While I am still constantly developing and innovating, I try to focus on interaction and drawing the real world into my teaching at all times. I firmly believe that connecting the students to the world outside of school is the best way for them to learn; I try to bridge that gap for them as much as possible.
Chris Maeoka is an Outstanding Faculty Award winner, an award given by the student body to outstanding faculty members.
