Merchandise Product Development

What does a Fashion Brand Manager do? Is there a typical day?
Every day is different and that’s what I love about it! As Fashion Brand Manager I am in charge of all aspects of branding for clients. One day I could be out shopping the market for product placement, managing the showroom and interns, sourcing new manufacturers, managing photo shoots for look books, creating line sheets, editing collections for best market exposure, attending trade shows, and attending industry events like the Us Weekly Magazine Oscar Event or Dolce & Gabbana Private Events. We also host our own events and launch parties. We just hosted one for the ITunes App Launch for American Gentleman Magazine. I also look for products to sponsor an event, pitch a product/brand or service to editors and media outlets, or broadcast social media buzz about a brand.

Tell us about RCW.
RCW is a boutique public relations agency that exposes fashion and lifestyle brands to the world. RCW brings our clients and their products and services to editors, retailers, consumers and the press. Our goal is to increase brand perception and profitability.

How did you decide on FIDM?
Actually FIDM was the only college I applied to. During my junior and senior year I attended an exclusive art high school in Minnesota called Perpich Center for Arts Education. When I came across information about FIDM, it seemed like the only place where I could really focus on what I wanted to do with my passion for fashion!

What jobs did you hold before RCW?
While at FIDM I had two internships, one at Barbara Fields Buying Office, a juniors market trend-forecasting agency that services large department stores like Macy’s & JC Penneys. I also did an internship with Margaret Maldonado Agency as a stylist intern working on photo shoots and pulling clothing from retail outlets and showrooms. While at FIDM I worked in the high-end retail world at Beverly Hills locations for Ann Taylor and BCBG Max Azria Rodeo Drive.

Is the fashion world what you imagined?
Honestly no, but that’s okay because its better than what I imagined. I try not to spoil what life gives me by placing things on a pedestal.
