analytical side of the industry this
degree fit me perfectly!"
Future Goal?
To become the director of Planning and Allocation.
What do you like most about your job?
I enjoy digging into the numbers to discover trends and patterns. I forecast sales going forward and inventory which gives the buyers a road map of what product we need and how much. With my responsibilities, I feel very involved and influential in my company which makes me love my job. I also manage and develop two Allocation Analysts which to me is my frosting on a cake because it's something I really enjoy doing.
Why Merchandise Marketing?
I chose this major because it educates and qualifies you for a multitude of jobs in the fashion industry. You learn about buying, allocation, marketing, and management. Since I enjoy the business and analytical side of the industry this degree fit me perfectly!

Founder of the fashion line Porridge, sold at top boutiques across the country
Every day is truly different and
I'm constantly 'on my toes.'"
How did you get your first break and when did you launch?
I started by making these one-of-a-kind hand-dyed, hand-embroidered patchwork floral tank tops and selling at a boutique in Brentwood that I managed. From there, they became a fast hit. I launched Porridge in 2004.
Why Merchandise Marketing?
I wasn't sure about what aspect of the business I wanted to pursue so Merchandise Marketing was a great balance between business and design.

The classes are very hands on,
and I couldn't see myself going to
any other school."
What made FIDM the right college for you?
I found out about FIDM my junior year in high school. I was president of the Fashion Club at my school and took sewing classes. I developed a huge interest in the industry. I did some research and learned that FIDM was very focused on the major you chose and was very helpful in placing students or helping them find a job once you graduate.
What are some of your greatest accomplishments?
Having the work experience that I have under my belt at only 24 years old and doing this internship in NYC and the show Running in Heels.
What was your favorite thing about attending FIDM?
I loved how all the teachers had been in the industry and had actual experience with what they were teaching. I also enjoyed how each class was so specific and hands on. The classes and school in general really prepares you for the industry and the working world.

potential and feel strongly that

mentor, support and engage the
student during the education process."

She then worked for Sunglass Hut as a Regional Director to include all of California, Nevada, and Hawaii before joining the faculty at FIDM, where she's been teaching for 10 years.
Describe a favorite class project:
My favorite project has to be the Professional Portfolio that students complete in Contemporary Business Strategies, a class taken in the last quarter. They compile some of their best work throughout their education at FIDM in order to present it to future employers. It gives them a tremendous competitive advantage over other applicants who have not attended FIDM and allows them to showcase the diversity of their education.
What is your philosophical approach to teaching?
As an instructor, I have a tremendous amount of energy and passion about the business and hope that it comes through to the students. The job of an instructor is absolutely to inspire a student to learn.
What is your favorite thing about teaching at FIDM?
I love that it forces me to stay current with both business and pop culture. The students inspire, educate, and excite me. I feel accomplished when I can make just the smallest difference in a student's education. They keep me young!
