Christopher Angel, author and Emmy-nominated, student Academy Award winning filmmaker, has worked in the industry for over 20 years. He published his first novel, “The Mona Lisa Speaks,” in 2013. Christopher has a B.A. Degree in Humanities from Yale University and an MFA Degree in Film & TV Production from the University of Southern California.
Do you currently work in the industry? I am a filmmaker, writer, and author. I am writing mostly for television right now, developing medical TV drama pilots, and I also have a couple of feature films I’d like to see get made.
What exciting changes do you see on the horizon in your discipline? In television, we are at an explosion of dramatic work some have termed “peak TV.” This has opened up the field to new voices and ideas, and the result is a rich outpouring of interesting characters and shows.
What classes at FIDM do you teach? I am teaching documentary pre-production to students in the Digital Media Program right now.
Describe your teaching philosophy: I try to balance “real-world” stories, and experience and advice with tailoring my approach to the specifics of doing a film inside academia, so that students learn the similarities and differences.
What do you enjoy most about teaching at FIDM? Meeting the students, and hearing their exciting story and film ideas. And also visiting the third floor [on the LA campus] and looking at the displays of student work. Always inspiring and interesting.
