Sharlene Habermeyer - Faculty
FIDM Beauty Industry Merchandising & Marketing Instructor

You should expect absolutely
the best work from students and
pave the way by being an example
of the best, most creative and
prepared teacher."

Beauty expert and certified nutritionist Sharlene Habermeyer knows the industry from the inside out. She currently serves on the Advisory Board of DoshaCare, an Ayurvedic skincare line, where she employs her knowledge of the chemistry, physiology, and biology of the skin. Previously Sharlene worked for 302 Skinwear where she was involved in all aspects of merchandising the product, including marketing, fulfillment, research, event planning, and tradeshows. This deep industry know-how combined with a Master's Degree in Education and over 30 years of teaching experience allows Sharlene to be an excellent resource for her students.

How do you apply what you've learned to teaching at FIDM?
My work at 302 Skincare applies to my Entrepreneurship and Fundamentals of Body Care classes. My certifications in nutrition have led me to do research on how various foods affect the skin, which is useful in my Fundamentals classes and Wellness/Spa classes.

Describe a favorite class project:
I really love the students getting involved with research, so they have an assignment in Fundamentals of Body & Hair Care to research a skincare company of their choice. They are required to analyze and evaluate this company from every angle as well as compare/contrast it to another similar company. They also do an in-depth, hands-on project researching various kinds and types of shampoos - from inexpensive to organic varieties! And they actually make their own skincare products: cleanser, masque, exfoliate, and astringent.

What do you enjoy most about teaching at FIDM?
The students–they are extremely interesting, highly creative individuals who are going to be the movers and shakers of tomorrow!

Sharlene Habermeyer is an Outstanding Faculty Award winner, an award given by the student body to outstanding faculty members.

Jenna Daunais - Graduate
FIDM Beauty Industry Merchandising & Marketing Program
Associate Manager-Retail Administration, Smashbox Cosmetics

When I was 19, I moved to
LA to attend FIDM to pursue a
corporate career in cosmetics."

What do you love about your job at Smashbox Cosmetics?
The company culture. Smashbox is a unique company because it has a creative and organizational culture. In apparel, cosmetics, and fashion, this is rare and hard to come by. I think ultimately this combo fosters the innovation in our products, which of course I love as well.

What advice would you give prospective students?
Live in Downtown Los Angeles while attending FIDM because it is a mecca for all things wonderful: libraries, food, interesting people, garment, trim, and jewelry district, nightlife, and the architecture is insanely gorgeous.
