Auxiliary classrooms and study spaces

FIDM Los Angeles has classrooms and workspaces for special study in historic buildings in the Fashion and Jewelry Districts in Downtown Los Angeles- within steps or just a few blocks away from the main campus.

    FIDM Shuttle Service

    For the convenience and safety of our students, FIDM provides free shuttle service, day and evening. The shuttle runs continuously Monday through Friday. From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.(Mon.-Fri.), the shuttle makes stops at The Loft, the Jewelry Design Studio, and the Main Campus. From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. (Mon.-Thurs.), the stops include the Annex, the Metro Train Station at 7th & Figueroa, the Medici Apartments at 6th & Bixel, Piero Apartments, outlying parking lots, and the Main Campus.

    The Annex

    FIDM's Annex facility in the historic Standard Oil Building is located across the street from the Los Angeles campus. In addition to conducting classes on the second and third floors, there are two Design Studios located on the first floor.

    The Design Studio East offers:

    • Individual Development and Educational Assistance (IDEA Center)
    • International Student Workshops
    • PC and Mac computer terminals with Internet access
    • Scanners
    • Printing and copying (color and black and white)
    • Fax service

    The Design Studio West offers:

    • Studio labs with qualified facilitators
    • PC computer terminals with Internet access
    • Drafting tables
    • Study area
    • Laptop check-out
    • Printing and copying (color and black and white)
    • Painting and clean-up facilities

    Hope Street Annex

    FIDM's Hope Street Annex facility is located on the southeast corner of Hope and 8th Street, one block from the Los Angeles campus. The facility provides lecture classrooms on the ground floor for students of all majors.

    Jewelry Design Studio

    FIDM’s Jewelry Design Studio, located on the 7th floor of the St. Vincent Jewelry Center, is in the heart of the Downtown Jewelry District. The Studio provides students with hands-on experience in rendering, metalsmithing, wax carving, and casting.

    The Loft

    FIDM’s Loft facility is located on the 12th floor of the Merchant Exchange Building- approximately six blocks from the Los Angeles campus - in the heart of the Los Angeles Fashion District. Here in the midst of LA’s best designers, manufacturers, and contractors, students are exposed to various aspects of the industry and are provided with hands- on experience. The Loft features a state-of-the-industry, in-house, textile-testing laboratory in which students are taught to conduct commercial testing on fabrics used in the apparel industry. Pattern Drafting, Apparel Process, and Textile classes are conducted at the Loft. Students pursuing majors in Fashion Design, Fashion Knitwear Design, Textile Design, Apparel Industry Management, Theatre Costume Design , and Merchandise Product Development take at least one class at the Loft facility.

    Park Annex (Renaissance Building)

    FIDM’s Park Annex facility located in the Renaissance Building provides lecture classrooms on the first floor for students of all majors. These classrooms are adjacent to, and just footsteps from, the Los Angeles campus.

    Studios and Workshops

    Studios assist students with assignments and projects, giving them an avenue to explore and express creativity. Expert advice and constructive critiquing appropriate to the subject matter are provided. Each campus posts studio schedules quarterly on the FIDM Portal.

    Workshops are concise educational programs for groups of students focusing on techniques and skills in a particular subject area. Workshop information is announced on the FIDM Portal.
