FIDM Museum Special Project
The FIDM Museum Foundation is excited to announce an once-in-a-lifetime fundraising opportunity to purchase a major collection of historically important men’s, women’s, and children’s fashion, dating from the 1600s to the 1930s.
Man’s Doublet c. 1595-1610
Among the many amazing items are garments worn by Queens and Empresses of England and France. Major haute couture designers represented include Worth, Vionnet, Dior, Poiret, Paquin and Chanel. Gathered over a 50-year period by well-known, Los Angeles-based historian Helen Larson, this collection helped to establish the academic study of fashion history. The acquisition of the approximately 1,000-piece Helen Larson Collection would elevate the FIDM Museum into an international force in the field of fashion studies.
The FIDM Museum Foundation was established in 1978 to provide a research facility of garments, accessories, and visual materials for students, researchers, designers, and the public. Currently the museum’s collections date from 1800 to the present.
Court Skirt & Train associated with Queen Marie Antoinette of France c. 1775
Your help is greatly needed to raise funds to acquire this stellar collection. We are asking for fully tax-deductible pledges of $250 or more. Individuals, groups, and businesses who donate $2,500 or more will be perpetually connected to the Helen Larson Collection and listed in exhibitions and publications.
Please contact curator Kevin Jones in the FIDM Museum office to find out how you can support this important endeavor: 213.623.5821 x3367, or kjones@fidmmuseum.org.
The FIDM Museum Foundation is a California non-profit 501(c)3.
Thank you!

Giving Back to FIDM
If you’re looking to volunteer some time on a regular basis consider heading back to FIDM to work with the Museum & Galleries. "We want people to learn as much as they can about the museum and its processes," says curator and costume historian Kevin Jones. |
If you’re interested in contributing, please email your resume to Kevin at kjones@fidmmuseum.org. After that, an interview appointment will be set and Kevin will give you a tour of the facilities and describe the projects that volunteers are needed for. |
