Claire Shmitz
On the Set

Claire Schmitz is a recent FIDM alum with a career on the fast track. She is a 1996 graduate and is already working on the set of a successful NBC sitcom.

With a degree in Visual Presentation and success as a freelance visual designer, Claire applied for the position of assistant wardrober on the show "Saved by the Bell". Her talents and work ethic won over the show's costume designer (also a FIDM grad) and earned her a position in the glamorous and lucrative entertainment industry.

Having fun during a break from filming

As a wardrobe assistant, it is Claire's job to help define the show's characters by coordinating their wardrobes to suit their personalities. She works closely with the costume director and the show's stars and is responsible for all female cast members and guest stars.

Before working for NBC, Claire pursued her career as a freelance visual designer with her largest account being the Ramada Hotel in Laughlin, Nevada. At the Ramada she organized a 1940's museum exhibit featuring war memorabilia and fashions from the 1940's. The Ramada was so impressed with the exhibit that they hired Claire to design their windows and merchandise their gift shop. Claire has also worked as a freelance designer and photo stylist for clients such as Nordstrom, Gucci, Hardrock Cafe and Robinsons-May.

Selecting the wardrobe for the cast

Claire credits her experience at FIDM for helping her begin a career so quickly after graduation. By utilizing FIDM's resources and advisors, she was able to network while still in school and meet the contacts that would later result in exciting freelance jobs..

Claire's goal for the future is to remain in the entertainment industry and become a costume designer for either television or film.
