Designing A Style Of Her Own
Charlene
Chamberlain was the fashion stylist for all the photos below.
Ever
since she was 8 years of age, FIDM Visual Communications grad Charlene Chamberlain, has
had a sense of fashion. At an age when most of us were concerned with childish
pursuits, Charlene was consumed with fashion and how it affected the way she
looked and felt.
A lthough she may not have known it at the time, these thoughts were precursors
to her future career, a career that would eventually have her creating fashion
ensembles for some of the largest companies in the country and some of the
most well-known personalities in the entertainment industry.
Coming out of high school Charlene knew she wanted to be involved in the fashion industry but didn't know how to define and direct her passion. When she came to FIDM in 1989 she knew she was in the right place. Charlene says all the classes she took, from beginning drawing to visual presentation, helped her to come to a clearer understanding of her true talent.
"I learned how talented I was and FIDM helped me realize I could do so
many different things. I gained a great sense of confidence. That's what I
got most out of FIDM." Charlene's experiences at FIDM, coupled with her
love for style and fashion, propelled her into a fun and creative career as
a fashion stylist.

to create different moods or help convey a message. It is her job to decide
what clothing will be worn in print ads, commercials, or stage productions.
The fashions she decides on must not only be appealing, but compliment the
surrounding environment to ensure there is harmony between all the visible
elements. Charlene's job is very demanding but she gets great satisfaction
knowing that her creations are visually appealing.
Charlene has worked with numerous companies including Gucci, Sony, Macy's, and The Wherehouse. She has also worked with high profile personalities including Motley Crue, and En Vogue. Charlene's advice is to learn as much as you can at every opportunity. Gain as much as you can from every job and use that knowledge to help you achieve your goals later in life.
