The making of a movie poster

Illustrator creates life-like sketches
The professional Illustrator looks at the thumbnails and photo concepts from the Creative Team and creates more sketches, this time including aclose likeness of the star or stars. The purpose of the Illustrator’s sketches is to telegraph the ideas in a more presentable manner.
Photo Editor brainstorms the photo shoot
The Photo Editor does research to locate which pictures of the stars will be necessary as reference material for the Illustrator to use to develop the “star likeness.” These images can be found in stock houses, with star agents, newsreels, television spots, or even previous movies in which the stars appeared.
An Art Director is now selected to become the Lead in the project. A meeting is coordinated with the Studio to look over the unit photography (still photographs taken during the making of the film). They will look for pictures of the talent, the location, the supporting cast, and the star’s headshots.
