Dorothy Bulac
1983 FIDM graduate Dorothy Bulac has successfully crossed over from the apparel industry to the art world.
Using her fashion design expertise, Dorothy created artistic statements using
female imagery and symbolism. She was one of a selected few artists featured
in the Cambridge Artists Cooperative (Massachusetts) in a show entitled Images
of Women In Craft.
Dorothy views corsets not as restrictive lingerie of the late nineteenth
century but as a twentieth century art form. She states, "I can't think
of a better symbol than the corset. It's been our prison/armor for centuries.
To give a new twist, I designed them in recyclable materials. And as fashion
celebrates change, I also made them representative of the seasons. I'll never
look at trash the same way again!"
She has taken the design world by storm in several other arenas, also:
- Television Credits:
Practice Time; Earth 2; Civil Wars; Poisoned by Love; Doors; Journey to the Center of the Earth; Smothers Brothers Show - Commercials:
