Angela Dean
Designs by DeanZign
So
you thought fashion "design" was the name of the game when you were
dreaming about dressing the stars. Think again! The name of the game is "DeanZign"...Angela
Dean(Zign),
that is!
"Why", you ask? Just think about the following litany of talents and skills she offers as client services.Get ready the list is l-o-n-g!
Consultation; color coordination; design selection; private fitting; fabric research; pattern making; garment construction; beading and design details; personal wardrobe coordination; professional wardrobe consultations; special event fashion design.
Tired, yet? No? Then add these to your breathless wonder of how she does it...
album covers, personal appearances, videos, photo shoots, television shows,
stage plays, and concerts tours.
"Glamour,
fit, timelessness, detail, uniqueness and distinction; that's what the stars
demand" says the vivacious, extroverted Angela. "Demanding? My goodness,"
she laughs, "you don't even know."
"Image is essential in their professional lives and style is an absolute absolute. You know that TV show we used to watch, Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous. Well while we dream and desire it; they live it. And I've worked hard to help them realize their dreams of looking as famous as they really are."
Couture
designer Angela Dean started on this life mission at the age of seven when
she presented her mother with her first clothing creation, a pair of shorts
and a matching scarf. She hasn't turned back since. Her extensive work in
Los Angeles' lingerie industry was paramount in helping her to create the
true foundation of a fabulous evening gown. "It's all in what's underneath,"
she says.
"It's
in the bra and the corseting that give the body that distinctively sleek and
sensational look. My forte is in taking a woman's body and hiding the areas
they don't like and highlighting the ones they consider flattering. I know
what a woman wants to feel like. It's not just how a woman looks, you know;
it's really about how a woman feels about how she looks."
Talk
about how a woman feels? Just envision the following list of female entertainers
and celebrities and think about how they looked like they felt and then, think
about the woman who helped them feel that way: Paula Abdul (Rolling Stone
magazine cover); Anita Baker (Fairy Tales video); Natalie Cole (The Unforgettable
concert tour); Mrs. Cookie (Earvin "Magic") Johnson (Ebony magazine
cover); Gladys Knight (Madam Lily stage play); Patti LaBelle (Gems concert
tour, The Arsenio Hall Show, The Jay Leno Show); Vesta (Always video); Nancy
Wilson (Red, Hot & Cool television show); etc., etc., etc. These are but
a few of the recognizable names who seek the creativity of the DeanZign Studios.
What's
next for this brilliant and talented designer? She throws her head back in
gales of laughter. "Oprah...Oprah... Oprah..., I'm just dying to do something
for her. Better yet, I would love to follow in the footsteps of one of my
favorite designers, Donna Karan, and have Oprah feature my work on one of
her shows. Now, wouldn't that just be too, too grand!"
"My heart is in the evening," says Angela. And it's no wonder. The stars of our musical universe shine brighter at night. Thanks to FIDM alum Angela Dean, every woman can shine on any night in the galaxy of stars!!!
Oh by the way, look for DeanZign fashions in an upcoming issue of Essence magazine. It's truly fitting, isn't it? After all, DeanZign represents the true essence of looking and feeling like a glamorous superstar!!!
